Together they entertained Bake Off fans week in week out with their comical double act, but it seems TV favourites Mel and Sue will not appear together in a new upcoming show on BBC1. The Sun reports that presenter Mel Giedroyc has secured a top job hosting a new singing show on Saturday nights. According to the paper, the new show is called Pitch Battle, which will see aspiring singers compete over six-weeks before one star wins the competition in the grand final. The new programme is said to be based on the film Pitch Perfect. Mel, 48, who fronted Gary Barlow’s popular show Let It Shine earlier in the year, will no doubt be excited at landing the top gig on this new primetime show.

Bake Off fans were upset when presenter due Mel and Sue left the hit cookery show last year. The pair had hosted the show since 2010 and went on to win viewers’ hearts with their jovial gags, appearing alongside judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood. However, after their departure, Bake Off moved to Channel 4 and Paul was the only original show member to stay on – he was joined by Sandi Toksvig, Noel Fielding and Prue Leith.

Sue, meanwhile, appeared on our screens earlier this year hosting a Sky 1 show called The Big Spell. The programme followed children competing against each other in a big spelling competition, but unfortunately for Sue, the show was cancelled due to poor ratings. Speaking recently to The Mail newspaper about leaving Bake Off, Sue revealed that watching the new series of Bake Off would be a little strange but she wished the new team well. She said: “Hand on heart, I don't know if I'd watch it because that might be a bit weird but that doesn't mean you don't want it to succeed.”
