Hollywood lit up social media yesterday in honour of George Clooney's 56th birthday. From Salma Hayek to Ellen DeGeneres, stars and fans all over the world excitedly wished the A-lister a happy day. Despite George not having his own social accounts, at least not that we know of, his famous friends made sure he felt the love.

George's longtime friend Salma Hayek posted an epic throwback photo to her Instagram as a tribute. The pic showed Salma sandwiched between the soon-to-be dad and Will Smith. "Happy Birthday George! Feliz Cumpleaños Jorge! #georgeclooney," the 50-year-old actress wrote along with her post of the trio dressed in all white. Salma and George both starred in the 1996 film From Dusk Till Dawn.

Another celebrity who showed the icon birthday love was Cindy Crawford. The 51-year-old model shared a snap of her and husband Rande Gerber smiling with their movie star friend. She wrote: “Happy birthday to one of the classiest guys we know!” Rande also publicly wished George well, opting for a throwback photo from his pal's modeling days. "The modeling thing may not have worked out," he wrote with a black and white pic of George posing, "but @casamigos sure did. Happy Birthday George!" Rande and George produce Casamigos Tequila together.

Twitter was ablaze with short birthday sentiments for George from his adoring fans. Ellen DeGeneres notably wrote, "Happy birthday, George Clooney. You should drop by more often." On her Facebook, the comedian added, "I hope you celebrate with your wonderful, incredible, beautiful wife, Amal. You’re pretty neat, yourself."

Although it was the Hail, Ceasar! star’s moment, he was most likely thinking about another day of birth. Julie Chen confirmed in early February that George and Amal Clooney are expecting twins. Shortly after, George broke his silence on becoming a first-time dad, telling French news outlet Rencontres de Cinema, "We are really happy and really excited. It's going to be an adventure," adding, "We've sort of embraced it all… with arms wide open." Last month the Oscar-winner admitted that his wife had vetoed his name suggestions for their impending bundles of joy. "My wife says I can't name them Casa and Amigos. That's the one thing I'm not allowed to do," the star joked with Entertainment Tonight, "It was just a thought. I mean, you know, it's a family business."
