Viewers, and indeed the hosts, of Good Morning Britain were surprised on Monday when Lorraine Kelly publicly described Emma Watson as "a wee bit annoying". The popular TV host made her comment when asked about Emma's historic win at the MTV Awards on Sunday, when the 27-year-old received the first gender-neutral acting category trophy. The story was a hot topic on the breakfast show, with hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid having an animated discussion on the topic, before Piers asked Lorraine for her thoughts.
"Is this just me, or is this all getting a bit ridiculous?" he asked the TV star. "I do hear what you're saying," Lorraine answered. "But is it the fact that she won it and she's a wee bit annoying?" Realising what she had just said, Lorraine put her hands over her mouth before laughing along with Piers, while Susanna and co-presenter Charlotte Hawkins looked visibly shocked.

Emma was one of the big winners at Sunday's award show. In a first for the ceremony, both men and women were featured as nominees in the category for Best Actor In A Movie, which Emma won for her role as Belle in Beauty and the Beast. In her acceptance speech, she praised MTV for moving towards a gender-less awards show. "The first acting award in history that doesn't separate nominees based on their sex says something about how we perceive the human experience," she said. "Acting is about the ability to put yourself into someone else's shoes and that doesn't have to be separated into two different categories. Empathy and the ability to use your imagination should have limits."
