"Sometimes I would say 'enough!' He kept nothing from me and I admire him for that. Was he honest with me about drugs? He probably wasn't as honest because he knew how I felt about it. That was probably the only area that he wasn't honest with me about. We both had our own issues. We both worried a lot about each other." The former lovebirds dated from 1996 to 2011, with the pair breaking up due to their struggles with substance abuse and alcoholism.

Of the end of relationship, Kenny explained: "People always ask me that and I really don't know the answer, there was no big break up. There was no anger, there was no hostility… I still hurt from him a lot… and still worried about him until the day he died." He added: "We spoke maybe a month before his death. Normally I spoke with George when he was in a good place, one of the first things he'd say to me is 'darling, how is your recovery'. There's so many memories to cherish, it makes me sad to think about it, he wrote 4/5 songs about me, I just enjoyed being in his life."

When asked if could have prolonged George's life, Kenny replied: "A psychiatrist told me once when I said ‘What should I do?’ and he said ‘Kenny please don’t leave’, and something like ‘You’re the only reason he lives’. But I don’t know, maybe we both would have been dead, who the hell knows? I certainly did my best to protect him, and he did his best to protect me from my alcoholism… he was very, very worried about me."
