Earlier this week, Avon and Somerset Police released a statement to appeal to witnesses to come forward with information about the car accident. The collision, which involved a Volkswagen Beetle, is said to have taken place on a busy street where the O2 venue is, along with other popular nightspots. A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We're appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision in Bristol. The collision happened on Frogmore Street at approximately 11.45pm on Friday, April 28. A Volkswagen Beetle collided with 21-year-old Harriet Shelley. Sadly, Harriet, from Clevedon, died as a result of the injuries she sustained on Saturday."
Speaking after the tragic accident, George and Harriet’s mother Toni Harris said no one is to blame, claiming her daughter was "in the wrong place, at the wrong time". On George’s Instagram, the singer posted a picture of a sunset. Next to the photograph he was inundated with words of sympathy for his loss. One follower told him: “So sorry for your loss George. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you through this horrible time.” Another wrote: “My heart breaks for you and your family. I’m so sorry for your loss x.” A third person simply said: “Sorry for your loss, shine bright Harriet.”
