Barron Trump has been enrolled at a prestigious school in Maryland, his mother Melania has confirmed. The 11-year-old, and only son of US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania, will attend St. Andrew's Episcopal School in Potomac. Barron will be living with his parents in the White House while attending the school roughly 19 miles away, or a 30-minute car journey. The statement released by the White House administration read: "We are very excited for our son to attend St. Andrew's Episcopal School. It is known for its diverse community and commitment to academic excellence. The mission of St. Andrew's is 'to know and inspire each child in an inclusive community dedicated to exceptional teaching, learning, and service,' all of which appealed to our family. We look forward to the coming school years at St. Andrew's."

The Washington Post also reports that the school had been hoping to hold off making the announcement until the summer, in part for fear that the school would become a site for protests. However as rumours regarding Barron's schooling escalated in the past few days, and parents became concerned, a letter was sent out to the school community to confirm the news.

The co-educational college only has 580 students, with the average number of pupils in each class ranging from 11 to 15. Barron, like other students, will be given a lot of attention; the student-teacher ratio is seven to one, according to the school's official website. Their motto is Auctus Mentis Spiritusque, which means The Increase of Mind and Spirit. The prestigious school sits on 19 acres of land and features state-of-the-art classrooms. It offers a range of sports including volleyball, cross country, basketball, wrestling, baseball, lacrosse, tennis, golf, and track and field. It also offers fitness, dance and other non-competitive athletic options.

Tuition for Barron's school year will cost approximately £29,000 per annum, increasing to £31,000 for older grades. Barron currently attends a private school in Manhattan, the Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School, which costs £35,000 per year. The youngster and his mum Melania will relocate to Washington D.C. in the summer after Barron finishes his school year. Earlier this month, President Trump did confirm that his youngest child has been enrolled at a "good school". When asked whether Melania and Barron are ready to move, the President told Bloomberg: "They're already set. In fact, we just got him into a good school."

Barron Trump is going to a "good school", the US President has said

Choosing St. Andrew's is a stark contrast from other presidential children. Barack and Michelle Obama's daughters Malia and Sasha both attended Sidwell Friends in Washington. Malia graduated last year and is taking a gap year before she goes to Harvard. Chelsea Clinton is also a fellow alum, as is Tricia Nixon and her younger sister Julie, the daughters of former US President Richard M. Nixon and First Lady Pat.
