Taylor Swift's new beau Joe Alwyn just landed himself a very regal movie role. The British star is set to play Queen Elizabeth I's love interest in the upcoming movie Mary Queen of Scots. The 26-year-old actor will star opposite of Margot Robbie, who will wear the crown of the English monarch with Saoirse Ronan stepping into the shoes of Queen Mary.

The film, which is based on John Guy's 2004 biography The True Life of Mary Stuart, explores the famous rivalry between the two queens, and will revolve around Mary's attempts to overthrow her royal cousin, Elizabeth I, to claim the English throne. In the period drama, Joe plays Lord Robert Dudley, Queen Elizabeth's counsellor and lover.

The in-demand actor is having a very busy year so far. He recently wrapped the drama The Favourite with Rachel Weisz, Nicholas Hoult and one of T-Swift's squad members Emma Stone. The young star also appeared in the recently released mystery-drama film The Sense of and Ending with fellow English actress Charlotte Rampling.

As Joe's career is reaching new heights, his relationship with Taylor is heating up as well. The couple has reportedly been dating for several months and have been spending quality time together in the UK and the US. According to People, Taylor even rented a house in North London to be closer to her new beau and just last week the couple was spotted having coffee together in Nashville.
