Celebrity dads who had kids later in life

Age is just a number for these famous celebrity fathers, who all welcomed children past the age of 50. Mick Jagger was 73 when he welcomed his eighth child and Billy Joel just became a father for the third time at 68.

Here, we look back at other stars who embraced fatherhood in the later stages of life.

BILLY JOEL

Billy Joel, 68, proudly shows off his newborn daughter Remy following her birth on Oct. 22. The Piano Man and his wife Alexis are now proud parents of two daughters, including two-year-old Della. The singer became a father for the first time back in 1985 at the age of 36. He welcomed daughter Alexa with former wife Christie Brinkley.

MICK JAGGER

Mick Jagger, 73, became a father for the eighth time in December 2016. The rocker and his girlfriend Melanie Hamrick welcomed son Deveraux Octavian Basil Jagger in New York.

ROD STEWART

With eight beautiful children that bear his name, Rod Stewart is officially a master at fatherhood. The Scottish singer became a first time dad at the age 18 but he along with the baby's mother decided to put the child up for adoption. More than a decade passed before the star gave fatherhood another go after welcoming daughter Kimberley in 1979. Rod's youngest son Aiden arrived in 2011, shortly after celebrating his 66th birthday.

After having a son in his early 30s, Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas waited another twenty years before before embracing fatherhood again. He and wife Catherine Zeta Zones have two children together, including daughter Carys who was born in 2003 when Michael was 59.

PAUL MCCARTNEY

Sir Paul McCartney's four eldest children were adults before his youngest daughter Beatrice arrived in 2003. The singer, who was then married to Heather Mills, was 61 at the time of her birth.

ROBERT DE NIRO

In 2011, Robert De Niro and his wife Grace Hightower welcomed a daughter via surrogate. The acclaimed actor was 68 years old.

ELTON JOHN

Elton John and husband David Furnish became first-time parents in 2010 when the "Rocket Man" singer was 63. They went on to welcome another son in 2013.

STEVE MARTIN

Unlike some of his colleagues who had children young and then again later in life, Steve Martin waited until he was in his 60s before becoming a dad. The actor and his wife Anne Stringfield welcomed a daughter in 2012 when the actor was 67.

The late Hugh Hefner was a father of four. His youngest child Cooper, seen here, was born in 1991 when the Playboy mogul was 65.

Donald Trump couldn't wait to start a family with his third wife Melania, who he married in 2005. Shortly after saying "I do," the 60-year-old became a father for the fifth time to son Barron.

Opera star Luciano Pavarotti had five children before his death at 71 in 2007. His welcomed his youngest child, Alice, when he was 68 years old.

Pablo Picasso didn't start having children until the age of 40, when he had his first of four children in 1921. His youngest daughter Paloma, a notable jewellery designer, was born in 1949 when the artist was 67.
