James Blunt exploded onto the scene in 2004 with the release of his much-loved album, Back to Bedlam, and the sudden fame had the singer courting plenty of attention. The singer soon started dating model Petra Nemcova, but when they split in 2012 another woman stole the Your Beautiful singer's heart, Sofia Wellesley.
The lawyer and the singer have been going strong since 2012, walking down the aisle in 2014 and welcoming two children. The pair have even found themselves mingling with high society, memorably attending Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding 2018, through James' friendship with the Duke of Sussex during their time in the military. However, Sofia has her own noble pedigree and is a member of the British aristocracy.
So, what do you know of Sofia Wellesley, here's everything you need to know...
Early life and career
Sofia was born to Lord John Henry Wellesley and Lady Corinne Vaes and is the granddaughter of the 8th Duke of Wellington. The star graduated from law school at the prestigious Edinburgh University, which counts Pippa Middleton among its alumni, and currently works at a successful London-based law firm. In 2016 she was appointed to the board of Cherie's legal consultancy, Omnia Strategy.
Back then, the Daily Mail revealed that documents filed at Companies' House give the blonde law graduate's name as Alexandrina Sofia Blount. Sofia's full name is Alexandrina "Sofia" Wellesley, but she does not use Alexandrina. Blount is the real, and more aristocratic, spelling of her former Cavalry officer husband’s surname.
Dating James
Sofia and James started seeing each other in 2012, with James popping the question in 2013. In an interview with the Mail, the singer opened up about their romance, saying: "It takes a strong person to be able to deal with somebody working in music. It's hard when you're with somebody and you become embroiled in something just because you were seen standing next to someone else. It takes a tough person to deal with that and I'm lucky to have her."
The duo wed on 6 September 2014 at a private registry office following an Elton John concert. The duo held a more lavish ceremony in Majorca on Sofia's mother's impressive Marsana estate shortly after their lowkey nuptials.
Children
The couple welcomed their first child together, a son, in 2016 and they have since welcomed a second a son. Although they have not revealed their children's names, singer Ed Sheeran confirmed to The Sun that he was the godfather to the older child. Ed said: "James is like a brother to me, actually I’m not quite sure if I can say this, but I’m going to — he's just made me godfather to his son."
He added: "To be honest, I think he's only done it because he knows I've got a good idea of what sort of person he'd want him to be when he grows up — an absolute lad. We're going to be brothers for life."
In 2023, James opened up about how his children had changed his priorities in life, sharing: "I am away for long periods. With my second child, I left the day after the birth for nine months. Fatherhood changed my priorities. I was selfish. Now these little people are far more important than me."

The singer has also previously hinted at a heartbreaking loss, releasing a song in 2023 titled The Girl That Never Was. Speaking to The Sun, James said: "The song that means the most is 'The Girl That Never Was' and I've talked about how we can relate. We all have ambitions to start families at some point – sometimes we have success and sometimes we struggle, which is what the song is about."
