Cheryl has broken her silence following her split from boyfriend of two years, Liam Payne. Attending Simon Cowell's annual Syco summer party earlier this week, the 35-year-old revealed some exciting news about her music career. She told The Sun: "Nicola [Roberts] and I wrote every track together. It's been great working with one of my best friends, but I'm really proud of the album and excited for people to hear the new music." Over the past few months, the mum-of-one has been working on new material with her former Girls Aloud bandmate Nicola and record producer Naughty Boy – this is set to be Cheryl's first album since Only Human, which was released in 2014.

She added: "It's pretty much finished. At this stage we're deciding what will be the first single. We're choosing between about three songs, but that's quite a nice problem to have. Thankfully I'm not looking at it, saying, 'Oh God, all this work and we don't have a hit record'. I think we do." Cheryl and Nicola's close friend Kimberley Walsh previously revealed that the upcoming music sounds "exciting". She told The Sun's Fabulous magazine: "I can't give anything away, but she played me some the other day and it's quite exciting."

Meanwhile, Cheryl's music news comes just as her ex Liam opened up about going on tour, and how he would never separate the former couple's son, one-year-old Bear, from Cheryl because he wants their child to have a "stable home". He revealed to People Magazine: "Babies want their mum; I would never have wanted to get in the way of that." The pop star continued: "It was actually easier to go out on the road just knowing he wanted his mum. Now he looks at me and points at me like, 'Here's this fun guy!' He knows."
Cheryl and Liam first met on The X Factor in 2008, when she was a judge and he auditioned as a contestant when he was 14. They welcomed their son in March last year after confirming their romance in 2016. Last week, the pair took to social media to post the same message, in which they revealed the end of their two and a half year relationship. "We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways," the message read. "It's been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together."
