I'm a Celebrity star Beverley Callard has previously opened up about her battle with depression, saying that she has new hope after finding a new doctor.

The star, who has played Liz McDonald on the soap for more than 20 years, took to Twitter this week to reassure her fans back in 2016, writing: "Had a good day today, things are on the up! Saw a new doctor today. Got hope!"

The 59-year-old has also publicly thanked her Corrie friends for all their support. "Had so many messages from the crew. It's fab!" she wrote. "We have the best crew in the world! Love 'em!"

She then added: "My chums at work are amazing – Kate Ford, Sue Cleaver, Simon Gregson and Claire King, Ali King and everyone! You're fab. X."

Beverley previously revealed that her latest bout of depression was brought on by a change in her medication. She wrote online: "Been battling the demons of depression! One of the meds I'm on has been stopped by pharmaceutical company, apparently it doesn't make money."

She added: "I'm getting there!!! Thanks so much for all your good wishes xxxx." The actress has been open about her struggles with mental health. In 2014, she told Piers Morgan's Life Stories that she had come close to taking her own life "maybe half a dozen times". She said: "It wasn't a cry for help at all. I'd known for quite a while that I wasn't myself, but I didn't really know what to do about it.

My husband John and my doctor said I looked like a 100-year-old woman. They tried different medications but none of them seemed to work.''
