The 52-year-old actor admitted the split was a "pretty big punch to take" when Kylie left him for INXS singer Michael Hutchence back in the 80s.

"It was an extremely painful parting of the ways and, without doubt, I took a long time to recover from it," Jason told the Mirror in 2016.

"Years, definitely. It was bad enough that she'd run off with anybody, but she happened to run into the arms of the greatest rock god of the period, the very guy who I secretly wanted to be. That was a pretty big punch to take."

Jason, who's set to make his debut on ITV's Dancing On Ice this weekend, added further: "I've since bumped into Kylie quite a few times," he added. "The break-up never comes up in conversation. We're not close enough to get into that."

Jason and Kylie started dating while starring together as teenagers in the Australian TV soap Neighbours. They split in 1989 after three years, and Kylie started a relationship with INXS frontman Michael, who died in 1997 at the age of 37.

Kylie and Jason were one of the decade's power couples

Jason is now happily married to Angela Malloch, and the couple have three children together: Jemma, Zac and Molly.

Regarding his move to join the ITV show, the Australian actor admitted his children were looking forward to seeing his moves on the ice. He said: "It's a unique opportunity, it's a skill, it's structure in a time when there's not much structure in our lives.

"It's good to keep fit, I really like that aspect of it. And my nine-year-old daughter is pretty pumped at the idea of seeing me dance on skates so that's a big thing!"
