Captain Sir Tom Moore shared one final message on social media ahead of his death, and it's so inspiring.

On 25 January, Captain Tom posted a message on Instagram that read: "You can do and be anything you want to be."

The touching image was captioned: "Be positive and believe in yourself."

Captain Tom passed away on Monday at the age of 100.

The national icon tested positive for coronavirus before his death, shortly after holidaying with his family in Barbados in December.

The Moores flew out to the Caribbean Island on 11 December before strict coronavirus travel rules came into force in the UK.

Writing about his holiday on Twitter, the veteran said: "I never thought that, at the age of 100, I would get to travel again. I'm so grateful to everyone who has made this possible.

Captain Tom's final message 

"The support I have been shown in 2020 has given me renewed energy and today I get to tick something off my bucket list."

On Wednesday, his family's spokesperson has revealed that Captain Tom had tested negative for coronavirus until he was treated for pneumonia.

He tested positive for COVID-19 the day he was discharged from hospital after a ten-day stay last month.

The national treasure passed away on Monday 

A statement from his family read: "He was admitted to hospital on January 12. Whilst in hospital he received a pneumonia diagnosis.

"In addition, as with other patients, he was tested regularly for Covid-19.

"On January 22, Tom was discharged from hospital back to the family home where he felt most comfortable. Unfortunately he was left still fighting pneumonia and tested positive for Covid-19 that day.

"He remained at home, cared for by family and medical professionals, until he needed additional help with his breathing. He was taken by ambulance to Bedford Hospital on Sunday January 31."
