Kamala was sworn in on 20 January 2021, and for her history-making moment she continued with her statement political wardrobe by wearing an elegant purple coat and dress - one of the principal colours of the women's suffrage movement, also worn by Michelle Obama, Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush on the day.

The outfit was designed by up and coming black designer Christopher John Rogers, and she finished her look with a string of her signature pearls, and classic Manolo Blahnik 'BB' pumps.

Kamala and Doug first met through a mutual friend on a blind date back in 2013 and went on to marry in 2014 – their wedding was officiated by Kamala's sister Maya.

Doug was previously married to American film producer Kerstin Emhoff but the former couple divorced after 16 years together.

They share two children, Cole, 26, and Ella, 21, whose name for their step-mother is 'Momala'.
