Sheinelle Jones has executive produced her first documentary about a subject close to her heart, and a private screening of it took place in Manhattan on Wednesday night.

Stories We Tell: The Fertility Secret, was previewed at The Bryant Park Hotel by many of Sheinelle's family members, friends and Today co-stars, including Al Roker, Dylan Dreyer and Jill Martin.

Sharing a heartfelt post on Instagram alongside a selection of photos from the event, the star wrote: " How many hugs can I give? I don’t even know how to express how my heart feels at the moment.

"Last night we had a chance to screen our documentary for a small group of colleagues and friends… to finally present what we’ve been working on for so long.

"My former classmate, turned brother at this point - @andrelgaines teamed up with me to tell the story of 5 powerful, resilient, beautiful, & authentic women.

"The fertility journey is not often discussed … but I pray their stories resonate when this airs Dec 19th. "I sat in the back of the theater, as they cried and laughed … I think I caught my mom talking back to the screen as if she was the only one in the theater.

"It's hard to capture it all with 10 pictures…. but I can tell you there was a lot of love and support in the room. "I *just* talked to my mom… she's already back in Kansas. What a whirlwind.

Sheinelle recently spoke to HELLO! about working on the powerful documentary, revealing that she was keen to shine a light on a topic that isn't often spoken about.

"I didn't want it to be this depressing thing but I also wanted it to be honest. I wanted there to be at least a thread of empowerment and hope and feeling like it's worth it to sometimes sit there and share," she explained.

Sheinelle hopes that the documentary will open up more conversations about fertility and raise awareness not only in the United States, but around the world.

"It's surreal. I've never done anything like this. To take on an hour documentary on my own was quite the feat and I already feel quite affirmed and I feel like it's part of my purpose quite frankly," she added.

Stories We Tell: The Fertility Secret airs on MSNBC at 10pm on Sunday 19 December
