It is safe to say that Elton John is almost as well known for his legendary music as he is for his advocacy, having founded The Elton John AIDS Foundation in 1992.

During an event in New York City for yet another crucial cause, a breast cancer awareness charity gala hosted by the one and only Elizabeth Hurley, the musician combined his two passions, and made a surprise appearance that left the crowd at a loss for words.

Both he and his husband, David Furnish, were honorary co-chairs of the night, and though they couldn't make it in person, Elton still took guests by complete surprise by making a virtual appearance, and performing live.

After Elizabeth shocked the audience as she presented the singer, he first took a moment to give a heartfelt tribute to the woman that inspired the event, Evelyn Lauder, one of breast cancer awareness' leading activists, who passed away from ovarian cancer in 2011.

The music icon said: "I'm sending my love to BCRF. I tried, but I'm sorry I can't be there."

He continued to express that: "This one is for all of you and thank you for helping the BCRF make more money every year, it's an amazing charity, in memory of an amazing woman. I'm wearing pink in honor of you all, I hope you enjoy this."

Much to the delight of fans, he went on to sing none other than his classic 1970 ballad, Your Song.

The night's second surprise perfromance was by Patti LaBelle

The night was as inspiring as it was successful, and its host, Elizabeth, announced on Instagram the following day that a record breaking nearly nine million dollars had been raised, and would be directed towards breast cancer research and attempting to eradicate it.

It also featured yet another surprise appearance by none other than Patti LaBelle, who got everyone off their seats as she performed the iconic Lady Marmalade.
