Kevin Bacon shares devastation over Roe V Wade with poignant message about women

The star was heartbroken

Kevin Bacon often uses his fame as a platform for an important cause - and his latest post is no different. 

The actor took to Instagram on Friday to share his devastation over the US supreme court's ruling to overturn Roe V Wade, and made his upset for women clear.

Alongside a headline from The NY Times of the news, Kevin wrote: "This is devastating news for women, all birthing people, and families. We have gone back in time."

The decision has erased nationally-held reproductive rights and put the power back in the state's hands. It is thought 23 states will now ban abortion entirely.

Kevin - who is married to actress Kyra Sedgwick - was clearly riled by the history-making decision and had his daughter, Sosie, and many other women in his thoughts.

He was by far the first celebrity to share his anger as others also expressed their concern.

Michelle Obama also expressed her upset at the decision 

Former US President, Barack Obama, had some bold words. "Today, the Supreme Court not only reversed nearly 50 years of precedent, it relegated the most intensely personal decision someone can make to the whims of politicians and ideologues—attacking the essential freedoms of millions of Americans," Barack posted on Twitter.

"Across the country, states have already passed bills restricting choice. If you’re looking for ways to respond, Planned Parenthood, United States of Women and many other groups have been sounding the alarm on this issue for years—and will continue to be on the front lines of this fight."

His wife, Michelle Obama, Viola Davis, January Jones and many, many more were deeply saddened by the news. 

The landmark decision was reached on 24 June 2022 by six of the nine justices who ruled that the right to an abortion was not covered under the constitution.
