Michael Strahan reveals new sporting adventure - and it's not what you'd think

The ABC host is gunning for the gold

Michael Strahan isn't one to let the competitive spirit die after years of competitive football, and he's taking his sporting talents to a whole other kind of game.

The Good Morning America host shared on social media that he was joining a new tournament that would pit sports icons against each other for a round of golf.

The Icons Series tournaments will feature many sporting legends from around the world, spanning football, cricket, boxing, and more, who will be split into two teams led by a pair of pro golfers.

Michael will be one of the players representing team USA and face off against those from the team ROTW (rest of the world) on 30 June and 1 July.

"Can't wait to play in the @iconsseries at @libertynationalgc, we need all sports fans in New York and New Jersey to come and show us some support," he wrote alongside a poster for the game, even sharing with fans how they could purchase tickets.

Several of his fans excitedly reacted, with one even calling him: "Magic Mike," and a few others reminiscing over his glory days in the NFL.

Michael will be playing in the Icons Series games

The ABC host has always been a fan of golf and while he built his career as a pro football player, his passion for the art of putting always remained.

He first started playing in 1996, stating to Golf: "I kept being asked to play and I didn't really want to, but I thought it might be a good way to meet people. And I got hooked immediately.

"What I’ve learned to do is look at the weather report for the week and allocate certain days so that when I'm done with GMA I make sure not to book anything," he explained.

"Like on a Thursday, I will leave GMA, go play a round, then go to my garage in Jersey and go straight to Thursday Night Football. I'll plan my days around golf."

The GMA host is an avid-golfer when off the air

Despite being one of the taller players in the game, Michael has always used size to his advantage, saying: "I don't disappoint at all. I'm a big enough hitter to make you go, Whoa! As a big guy, people don't expect your swing to be smooth."
