Matthew Perry is ready to open up to the world about the addiction struggles he has had for decades, since the height of his Friends fame, and how he has finally overcome them.

Amid the release of his poignant and highly-anticipated memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing, the star is further opening up about his addiction journey and recovery, and being his most transparent self.
For his first television interview since his revelatory statements on his life and career, he sat down with ABC's Diane Sawyer, where he spoke about his book, his co-stars, and looked back on the moments he tried to hide what was really going on in his life.

In a teaser for the big interview aired on Good Morning America, Matthew appeared nervous but willing to finally share the side of the story the cameras didn't always capture.
He emotionally looked back at a particular scene in Friends where he appeared at his skinniest, and explained that his weight was often an indicator of his current relationship with drugs.
After the scene played back, he said: "It's very hard to watch that, in a weird way I feel sorry for that guy, because that's a guy that's out of control, I didn't know what was going on with me."
The star is going on a book tour to promote his new memoir
He added: "I am so grateful to not be that anymore, but it's hard to watch," as he held back tears.

The actor also acknowledged how his weight dramatically fluctuated during his decade-long tenure on Friends revealing that whenever he was heavier, it meant he was relying on alcohol the most, and whenever he was too skinny, it was due to the pills he was taking.
Matthew also opened up about how his Friends co-stars lifted him up during his darkest times
Beyond looking back on his addiction, he spoke about his future as well, detailing how his friends might know that he isn't alright again.
"If I say I'm just going to chill at home alone tonight, and part two, the other thing, is if I ever say, 'I'm cured.'"
