He has his father’s unmistakable broad grin and his mother’s smiling Irish eyes. The youngest member of the royal family, Charles Patrick Inigo Armstrong-Jones, is growing up fast, as these photographs, taken to mark his second birthday last weekend, demonstrate.
An outgoing and happy little chap, he is 13th in line of succession to the throne, and the first child of Lord and Lady Linley, who live at Kensington Palace.
Although he is barely two years old, the Linleys’ small son is already revealing a fair amount of artistic talent, and spends a lot of time colouring and drawing pictures. This isn’t at all surprising considering that his father David Linley is an outstanding craftsman hailed as a Hepplewhite of the 21st century, and his mother is gaining recognition as a sculptress. At 31, Serena Linley is currently working towards her first exhibition at the end of this year.
Unlike his second cousin Prince Charles, young Charles is not destined for life in the royal spotlight. Perhaps one day he will end up as a successful carpenter or a keen musician, just like his dad. Lord Linley smiles and says, “Well, it’s really a bit too early to tell.”
