Justine Bateman, the actress who found fame as a teenager on the popular '80s sitcom Family Ties, has successfully navigated her way through Hollywood, expanding her career to include directing, writing, and producing.
Now at 57 years of age, Justine recently opened up in a candid interview with 60 Minutes Australia about her experience with aging and how she has managed to defy Hollywood's obsession with youth and beauty.
Justine shared a story about how, at the age of 42, she discovered that many people on the internet were fascinated with her appearance.
While conducting research on her own life, she googled her name, only to find the autocomplete suggestion "looks old".
Despite not understanding the fuss, Justine remains unfazed by others' opinions about her looks, proudly stating: "I think I look rad. I think my face represents who I am. I like it, and so that's basically the end of the road.”
The Family Ties actress also expressed her thoughts on cosmetic procedures, revealing that she feels sad for those who obsess over their appearance rather than simply enjoying life.
Justine believes that undergoing such procedures would erase the authority and experience she has gained over the years.
She explained: "I like feeling that I am a different person now than I was when I was 20. I like looking in the mirror and seeing that evidence."
Beyond her career, Justine's personal life has been a source of joy and stability.
She has been married to her husband, Mark Fluent, since 2001. The couple shares two children, a son named Duke and a daughter named Olivia.
The family's strong bond and support have been vital in helping Justine stay grounded in the ever-changing world of Hollywood.
Justine's brother, Jason Bateman, is also a successful actor, known for his roles in Arrested Development, Ozark, and numerous films.
The siblings share a close relationship and have supported each other's careers throughout the years, often appearing together at events and expressing their admiration for one another's work.
Throughout her career, Justine has continued to work in various television shows such as Desperate Housewives, Satisfaction, Arrested Development, Psych, and Californication.
Her impressive résumé showcases her versatility and ability to adapt to different roles and projects.
In addition to her acting career, Justine has ventured into directing, writing, and producing, demonstrating her passion for the entertainment industry and her dedication to her craft.
As she continues to embrace her age and the changes that come with it, Justine Bateman remains an inspiration for others in the industry and beyond, proving that success, self-confidence, and a healthy outlook on life can defy the superficial standards of Hollywood.
