Pierce Brosnan may be a magnetic screen presence, but he's also a talented painter with a keen interest and eye for abstract art.

The actor has developed quite a reputation for himself as a painter – routinely selling his work and preparing for an exhibition in Los Angeles this May.

He took to social media with his latest work, a large striking portrait covered in flames and swirls with eyes that pierce through the white canvas.

"Taking the show on the road (May 13th through May 21st)," he captioned a photograph of himself proudly posing with his work, revealing that his wife Keely Shaye was the one who took the shot.

His 22-year-old son Paris was one of the first to show their approval, leaving a comment which read: "Love this one!" while a fan enthusiastically wrote: "Terrific Pierce! You've out done yourself one more time."

Another also added: "Nice way to celebrate your big birthday." The actor will turn 70 on May 16, in the midst of his exhibition.

Pierce showed off his latest work

Speaking with GQ in September, the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen star spoke of his years-long love for art and how it helps him find solace.

"It assuages the kind of solitary life that you lead as an actor making films – sitting in trailers, sitting in parking lots, sitting in fields. Up a mountain,  down a mountain. Waiting in the wings.  So I create studios wherever I go."

He poignantly revealed that some of the paintings on display at his upcoming exhibition will date as far back as 1987, when his late first wife Cassandra Harris was dealing with ovarian cancer, passing away in 1991 at age 43.

Paris is also an avid painter like his dad

"Carrying the weight and pain and the fear of that illness,  I took out the paints. And started painting. With my fingers. With my hands, actually," he said.
