Nigella Lawson breaks silence following father's death with touching message

Nigella Lawson has taken to social media to thank her fans for their support following the death of her father, former Conservative Chancellor of the Exchequer, Nigel Lawson.

In a touching message shared on her Twitter, the beloved chef wrote: "Thank you for all your kind messages. And I'll be back on here properly tomorrow." Fans rushed to the message to share their condolences with the star, posting heart emojis and kind comments to her.

Nigel was a major figure in British politics during the 1980s, generally seen as one of the 'Big Beasts' of Margaret Thatcher's Cabinet, and served as Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1983 to 1989, significantly outlasting many of his predecessors.

First elected in 1974 for the Leicestershire constituency of Blaby, Nigel served as MP until 1992 when he retired from the Commons and was elevated to the House of Lords.

The 91-year-old had only retired from the Lords at the end of 2022 before his passing on Monday.

During his time in office, the politician had also served as Energy Secretary for a year and a half and had also held junior roles within the Treasury.

Nigella and Nigel had a close relationship

His passing has seen an influx of tributes from politicians, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, and his predecessors, Liz Truss, Boris Johnson and Theresa May.

Ahead of his death, Nigella had been sharing her recipe for 'Drunken Noodles'. The post has since seen an influx from her fanbase sharing messages of condolences for Nigel's passing.

Nigel and Nigella had a very close bond, and the politician had even occasionally appeared as a guest on some of her cookery shows.

Nigel is survived by his daughter and five other children, including the journalist Dominic Lawson and Tom Lawson, who is a headmaster at the private school, Eastbourne College.
