Martin Lawrence has shared an update on his friend Jamie Foxx, who was admitted to a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia on April 13 after suffering a still-unexplained "medical complication".

"I hear he's doing better," Martin told Extra on Thursday April 20. "My prayers go out for him every night and just wishing the best for him, one of the best that we got in Hollywood. Not only one of the best entertainers, but a good person." Spurces close to Jamie also told People that he's "okay", and "awake and alert".

Jamie, 55, was admitted to a hospital in Atlanta, Georgia on April 13 - while filming his upcoming Netflix movie Back in Action in Atlanta - according to his daughter Corinne, who shared that her father suffered a "medical complication."

In a statement posted by Jamie's daughter Corinne on behalf of the family, she disclosed that the 55-year-old Oscar winner had suffered a "medical complication" and was now on the path to recovery.

The family statement read: "We wanted to share that my father, Jamie Foxx, experienced a medical complication yesterday [Tuesday]. Luckily, due to quick action and great care, he is already on his way to recovery."

They also expressed gratitude for the outpouring of support, adding: "We know how beloved he is and appreciate your prayers. The family asks for privacy during this time."

While his condition appears to be improving, there is no information yet on when he will be discharged from the hospital or when he can resume filming.

Back in Action stars Cameron Diaz, who Jamie helped coax out of retirement, and Glenn Close.

Cameron plans to retire for good after the completion of the film, which has faced a series of setbacks on set; last month, reports surfaced that Foxx had a meltdown during the film's shoot in the UK, leading to the dismissal of several staff members, including an executive producer, two directors, and his own driver.

Further drama unfolded when an unexploded WWII-era bomb was found on the London set, causing a temporary halt in production.
