Cher made headlines when she began a relationship with someone 40 years her junior at the end of 2022 – and the significant age gap is not lost on the singer.
The 77-year-old is happily loved-up with musician and VP of A&R at Def Jam Records, Alexander 'A.E.' Edwards, 37, but she admitted that sometimes the years between them are noticeable in a rare interview about her boyfriend.
"Sometimes I'm talking to him, and he has no idea who I'm talking about," the 'Believe' singer told Extra.
"The other day, I said, 'Do you know who, I don't know, Clark Gable, [is]?' He said, 'Yes, of course,' but most of my references… He'll look at me and go, 'I wasn't born yet'," she jokily added.
Despite their age difference, Cher can't hide how happy she is with her new beau. "I hate to talk about how happy I am, but no, we have a great time together. We can talk music," she gushed.
"We can talk about everything. He's a got a great sense of humour, he's got the cutest son in the world, ever. We just get each other," she added.
Cher and Alexander met at Paris Fashion Week "for about 15 minutes" in October last year. She clearly made an impression on him as a mutual friend later gave him her number.
"It was really shocking," she previously told People, explaining: "Because people just don’t give out my number." The singer added: "I had been telling all my friends, 'We're too old to go out with really younger men, and I will never fall in love on text… So, I did what I said not to do!"
Char admitted that she's "not surprised" by the interest surrounding their relationship. "Alexander's got diamond teeth, tattoos, white hair, and he's way younger. He's a beautiful man," she said, adding: "Also, I think it's fun to be interested in somebody else's love life!"
Further gushing about her boyfriend, Cher said: "He's just so special. I hate when people say people are special, but lots of people say I'm special, so I can say that he's special. No matter what happens, I love being with him. He makes me laugh, and we have fun."
She went on: "What I learned is that it's never too late. If you wrote out all the statistics, you would go, 'Well, this is doomed.' But we've been together a year, and if it was just a year, it would've been worth it. I've had the best time.
"If you have happiness, you can't think about how long it's going to last," she concluded: "You have to think about 'How does it feel?' and live in the moment."
In December, Cher sparked engagement rumors when she shared a photo of a dazzling pear-cut diamond set between a glittering band encrusted with sparkling diamonds.
The jewel, displayed in a plush black jewelry box, left the songstress entirely speechless as she penned: "THERE R NO WORDS", followed by the name of her beau, "ALEXANDER, A.E."
