French representation

After a performance of "La symphonie des éclairs" by French singer Zaho de Sagazan, Léon Marchand, one of the top French medal-getters at the Games in the swimming competitions, approached the cauldron and picked up a lantern symbolizing the Olympic flame.

Goodbye, floating cauldron

We now say au revoir to the floating cauldron, a grand hot air balloon that held the burning flame of the Olympic Games. Fly away!

We interrupt this program...

Versailles-based rock band Phoenix took to the stage for a musical interlude, which just gave all the athletes a chance to collate near the stage and celebrate (with guest performer Angéle also lending some vocals).

Mission: Possible

In classic grand fashion, Tom Cruise dove into the crowd from the top of a stadium on a harness, took the Olympic flag, and drove off on a motorcycle. After handing over the flag to LA (with a skydive, no less), Red Hot Chili Peppers, Billie Eilish, and Snoop Dogg performed for a crowd on a beach.

Closing it out...their way

French singer Yseult brought the house down with a spectacular cover of Frank Sinatra's "My Way," with the stadium erupting into fireworks and the ceremony coming to an official close.
