The X Factor went all out for its fourth episode as contestants and judges alike got into the spooky spirit for the programme's Halloween special.
Judges Tulisa Contostavlos and Nicole Scherzinger entered the stage in dramatic attire. N-Dubz star Tulisa was flashed her fangs as she strode to her chair, complimenting the vampish teeth with a gothic black fishtail strapless gown. In a nod to villainous Sleeping Beauty witch Maleficent, Nicole donned a crocheted black head piece and volumised her hair with vampish crimping. Presenter Dermot O'Leary also joined in the fun as he danced onstage sporting devil horns, complete with vampire backing dancers.
With the boys donning guyliner and the girls going for gothic layering, the contestants were getting into the spirit of things too. Their songs ranged from dramatic ballads to electro hits but when cheeky Scouser Christopher Maloney stepped onstage, tensions between the judges rose once more.
After Chris performed Eighties ballad I Just Died In Your Eyes Tonight, Tulisa slammed the song choice, and asked her fellow judge: "Gary, how many of these Eighties classics are you going to let him keep destroying?"
The normally mild-mannered judge responded: "I don't know what's offended me more-- what you said or the fag ash breath!"
The N-Dubz star quipped back: "Just a note for Gary-- lay off the red wine, because I can smell that as well."
It seems all was forgiven on Sunday, however, as the star took to the stage donning a nicotine patch on her forearm, showing she'd taken the spat in good humour. Gary apologised on the results show as well as backstage for the comment, leading to the judges sharing harmless banter once more.
American indie group Fun and Robbie Williams spiced the show up on Sunday with their anthem-like performances. The US band were the first to take to the stage as they performed their summer anthem We Are Young, leading to an audience sing-a-long. It was Robbie, however, who really lit up the arena as he returned with fervour to perform his latest single, Candy. Cavorting with members of the audience and striking a pose with Louis Walsh, the singer shouted that the public should "vote Rylan!". The singer also offered his support for favourite Ella Henderson, who performed Evanescence's rock ballad Bring Me To Life on Saturday's show.
Meanwhile, Union J and Jade Ellis were relegated to the sing off, as the boyband's performance of Sweet Dreams and the single mum's rendition of Freak Like Me failed to impress the public. Bucking the trend of the previous series' result shows, Gary decided that Jade performance of Dido's White Flag was not good enough to keep her on. Devastated to be leaving, the 25-year-old was optimistic about her future.
The budding singer said: "To me, it's just been an amazing experience. I thank you guys for your critiques and my life starts here."
