Ant and Dec will soon have another accolade to add to their growing collection. The pair have both been awarded an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for their services to broadcasting and entertainment.

The news was revealed on Friday, just a few hours after Her Majesty and more than 50 members of the royal family attended the special thanksgiving service at St Paul's for the Queen's 90th birthday.

While Ant, full name Anthony McPartlin, and Dec, full name Declan Donnelly, have taken home scores of trophies in the past, an OBE from Her Majesty tops all.

The duo took to Instagram to express how "shocked" they were and how proud their "mams" will be. Alongside a photo showing Ant and Dec saying 'cheers' with a beer, they wrote: "We are both shocked, but incredibly honoured to receive OBEs.

We absolutely love what we do and have done since we started out aged 13."

We are just two ordinary lads from the west end of Newcastle. We hope us receiving this honour can inspire young people to chase their dreams and believe that anything is possible.

This will definitely be the proudest our mams have ever been!"

After mentioning the two royal shows they presented this year, the pair added: "2016 has been a fantastic year so far, and we're so grateful for all the support we receive.

The award comes after the popular duo worked with Prince Charles to present When Ant and Dec Met The Prince: 40 Years of The Prince's Trust, a one-off documentary for ITV that aired in January.

The programme gave viewers a special glimpse into the future King's life, while Ant and Dec also managed to secure interviews with Charles' nearest and dearest including his sons Princes William and Harry.

In May, Ant and Dec were also asked to present The Queen's 90th Birthday Celebration, a live broadcast of Her Majesty's spectacular festivities at Windsor Castle.

Katherine Jenkins, Kylie Minogue and Jess Glynne were among the eclectic mix of performers who participated in the event, while more than 900 horses also featured in the celebrations.

Guests were treated to performances in the arena from acts including The King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery, the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and the Royal Cavalry of the Sultanate of Oman.

Ant and Dec had the chance to meet the Queen before the big do, alongside their wives. The pair posted a photo from their joint Twitter account of the two couples dressed to the nines.

Dec captioned the snap: "#ThingsWeDoWhenWereNotOnTheTelly Take the wives to Windsor Castle for a cup of tea and to meet The Queen! D".

Rod Stewart has also been awarded a knighthood

Rod Stewart is another star who has been named in this year's Queen's Birthday Honours list. The musician has been awarded a knighthood for his services to music and charity. It follows his CBE which Rod, 71, received in 2007 at Buckingham Palace, again for his services to music.

Astronaut Tim Peake, who was on the International Space Station when he received the news, was bestowed a Companion of the Order of St Michael and St George for services to space research and scientific education.

Downton Abbey actress Penelope Wilton was also made a dame, while England cricket captain Alastair Cook, former footballer Alan Shearer and broadcaster Janet Street-Porter also received CBEs.
