In 2009 there were some key climbers in the list, including Denmark's Noma – up seven places – Swedish restaurant Oaxen Skärgårdskrog and Brazilian establishment DOM, both of which rose 16 slots. Also listed 11 places higher were American eatery Alinea and Switzerland's Restaurant de l'Hotel de Ville.

In 2011 Noma pipped their rivals to the post and sat above a top ten populated by European restaurants. Some new countries hit the list this year - as far afield as Peru.
