Do you fancy a hot dog and glass of champagne? The restaurant craze sweeping the capital is a far cry from nouvelle cuisine, a thousand miles away from the menus that come with footnotes and indexes – it’s about simplicity, doing one thing and doing it well. Or, in the case of Burger Lobster, doing two – this hot Mayfair joint has queues out the door every day and serves just two dishes (well, three at a push) – a whole lobster for £20 or a burger for £20 (they do a lobster roll too, but who’s counting?).
The concept has caught on and the next restaurant opening in this vein is BubbleDogs where, you guessed it, they will be serving up hot dogs and champagne. In the kitchen will be James Knappett (previously of Noma, Marcus Wareing at The Berkeley and The French Laundry at Harrods, and Sandia Chang as General Manager who has worked at The Ledbury, The Berkeley, Noma and Per Se amongst others. The menu will offer ten hot dogs served on traditional steamed buns with variations on the theme – a BLT dog, wrapped in bacon with truffle mayo and caramelised lettuce, and a Jose dog with guacamole, sour cream, salsa and jalapenos. Alongside the dog menu will be a Kitchen Table offering slightly finer fare. The restaurant is due to open in June on Charlotte Street, Fitzrovia.
