David Beckham's new-found field since retiring from football is in the making. The stylish-looking restaurant called Union Street Café – a joint business venture with good friend Gordon Ramsay – is situated in Borough, just south of the Thames, and is weeks away from opening in September.Images of an artist's impression of the venue posted on social media sites Facebook and Twitter reveal the inside of the swish eatery, giving a sneak peek of what diners can expect from a Beckham-Ramsay experience. The construction site has also been revealed in a snap taken of the works as they are underway.
The Mediterranean-themed café, designed by Russell Sage – who also created the interior of Gordon's Bread Street Kitchen – has been described as an "urban warehouse destination".Stylish yet understated, the eatery is in keeping with the local area and features exposed brick, neutral colours and charming furniture.
The menu sounds promising too, with quality ingredients sourced from the nearby famous Borough Market and directly from the continent.
Diners will be able to watch their dishes being rustled up by the chefs themselves, thanks to the open kitchen – a feature that Gordon has in another of his restaurants.Business partners David and top chef Gordon are already close friends. The pair are often seen together, along with their wives Victoria and Tana and their children, enjoying family days out on both sides of the Pond.Back in February the businessmen started hatching a plan to set up shop.
"We're really excited to be opening Union Street Cafe in September," said Gordon. "It's great that David wants to come on board. "We've been working on the new site, which is near Borough Market, for the past couple of years and the amazing large warehouse space will offer quality Mediterranean-influenced food with a daily changing menu. "He joked, "David Beckham is going to be my sous chef."
