Gordon Ramsay is dashing after two-stone weight loss from strict diet and gruelling exercise

October 21, 2013

Gordon Ramsay has lost more than two stone after a year of following a strict diet and gruelling exercise regime.

One of Britain's most famous TV chefs radically changed his eating habits and incorporated extreme fitness into his daily life in efforts to prepare for the Ironman triathlon, which he successfully completed last week.

Gordon, 46, began his preparation for the world's toughest triathlon in Kona, Hawaii, first weighing in at 16st 2lb. He has now reportedly dropped to an incredibly trim 14st.

The 6ft 2in chef – famous for TV series such as Kitchen Nightmares and Hell's Kitchen as well as his 15 awarded Michelin stars and various restaurants – traded fatty foods for super healthy alternatives including vegan shakes, almond milk and plenty of vegetables.

His healthy eating regime also included oatmeal or muesli for breakfast and protein-rich dishes such as poached fish and chicken for dinner.

Getting in shape for the tough triathlon also meant cutting down on caffeine, which may be one of the reasons Gordon looked so dashing on The Jonathon Ross Show last week. The chef has only been allowing himself one cup of coffee every two days.Dairy is another food group that has been low on the chef's intake – the milk he adds to his coffee is the only dairy product he consumes.

Along with the strict diet, the father-of-four has been working out three to four days a week with two coaches in the UK and Los Angeles.

But the gruelling workouts – comprising 70-mile cycle rides, 25-mile runs and two-hour swims – paid off when he successfully completed the triathlon.

"3.86km swim, 180.25km bike ride, 42.2km run & just over 14hrs later-it's DONE! #IRONMAN #IMKONA Thx 4 all the support!" tweeted the relieved chef.

Gordon completed the triathlon, which involved a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a half-marathon, in 14 hours, four minutes and 48 seconds.
