Heston Blumenthal's Dinner remains in best 10 restaurants in the world

Dinner by Heston Blumenthal in central London has remained in the list of top ten restaurants in the world, according to The World's 50 Best Restaurant Awards which were announced in London on Monday evening.The double Michelin-starred restaurant situated in the swanky Mandarin Oriental Hotel, Knightsbridge, provides diners with historically inspired British dishes. This year saw the famous eatery move down two notches from fifth to seventh place.

The big winner of the annual awards ceremony – which is considered a highlight of the global gastronomic calendar – was El Celler de Can Roca of Girona, north-east Spain, which regained its title as the world's number one restaurant.

Renowned for its free-style cooking and cutting edge techniques, the restaurant – which was opened in 1986 by brothers Joan and Josep Roca and holds three Michelin stars – took the crown in 2013 before slipping to second place last year after two Michelin star Danish restaurant Noma.

Other restaurants in the top 10 include Lima, Peru's Central at number four, New York's Eleven Madison Park and Mugaritz, one of San Sebastian's long-standing three Michelin-starred restaurants, at a firm number six.

Last year's winner moved to third place as Massimo Bottura's Osteria Francescana in Modena, northern Italy, moved up to second place after occupying the third spot for two years.

Brett Graham's West London eaterie The Ledbury, which holds two Michelin stars, remained in the ranking but dropped to 20th place from tenth last year.

When it comes to this year's 50 Best, France has five restaurants in the ranking, the US has seven and there are nine from Latin America. Seven Asian restaurants make it into the list, including two featuring in the top ten for the first time.

Restaurants from Tokyo, Sao Paulo and Bangkok were also deemed to be among the best ten restaurants in the world.
