Great British Bake Off winner Nadiya Hussain has been labelled an "icon" by the show's host Sue Perkins. Speaking on ITV's Lorraine Mel said it was incredible to see the transformation that Nadiya, who posed for an exclusive family photo shoot in this week's HELLO! magazine, had undertaken.

"She is a star," Sue told Lorraine Kelly. "And it's quite something to watch her go from someone lacking confidence to this incredible icon that she is now."

The 46-year-old also speculated on why she thinks the show has been such a success. "I don't know, because I'm in it, but I guess it's very genuine and what you see is what you get," she said. "And the four of us in the centre of it just really love each other and we have fun and all we want to do is to make sure that the people coming in have a good time and get to make nice cakes and feel good about themselves."

Nadiya was named the 2015 winner of the Great British Bake Off two weeks ago, and she has since told HELLO! that she can't wait for the exciting new chapter of her life – despite nearly quitting the show before it started.

"I know life will change completely now and I think we're all ready for it as a family. For me, I just want to keep baking and cooking," Nadiya said. "I'd love to do telly and write a book and whatever else comes along, nothing's sealed yet. None of this feels like work, it feels like fun. I'm having such an amazing time, I never imagined I would enjoy it so much. I want to grab it with both hands and say 'It's mine!'"
