Just as we were getting over bolognese-gate, Mary Berry has once again shocked viewers of her BBC show Mary Berry Everyday with another food revelation. The former Great British Bake Off star admitted she had never ordered a takeaway pizza, prompting many viewers to head to Twitter to express their shock.

Among them was BBC Radio 1 host Nick Grimshaw, who tweeted: "I love Mary Berry 'calling for a pizza home delivery' for the first time." Another wrote: "Shook by Mary Berry saying she's never had a takeaway pizza." Others suggested Mary still hadn't had the proper takeaway experience after inviting the founders of London's Pizza Pilgrims to her countryside home along with their traditional pizza oven.

Mary Berry admitted she had never had takeaway pizza

"I've called for my first ever pizza delivery in the form of brothers Tom and James from Dorset, who love it so much they went all the way to Naples to discover the secrets of the very best pizza in the world," the 81-year-old said. Then, welcoming the siblings into her home, Mary said: "I've got a confession, I've never had a home delivery of a pizza."

Mary tucked into a "tempting" classic Margherita pizza, which she credited as: "the best pizza I've ever had". She then went on to make her own version of the pizza with goats cheese and Parma ham, adding her own twist by adding garlic to the dough. Luckily her adjustment to the recipe didn't offend viewers as her decision to add cream and white wine to her spaghetti bolognese recipe in the previous episode of the show.

The 81-year-old's recipe for the "delicious" dish divided viewers after she told them to add wine, "white or red, whatever you've got to hand - although I really prefer white." She also stopped partway to add cream, saying: "My secret is to make it even richer by adding double cream... it just enriches it."
