Hot on the heels of the craze for Starbucks' limited edition Unicorn Frappuccino, a Los Angeles-based ice cream parlour has put a new spin on another of our favourite treats with the launch of black ice cream. Providing the perfect antithesis to the colourful and glittery iced drink, Little Damage has infused its homemade soft-serve ice cream with almond charcoal to give it a distinctive black hue, before serving it up in a black waffle cone.

A glimpse at Instagram reveals thousands of posts of the unusual yet delicious ice creams, decorated with desiccated coconut, colourful sprinkles and chocolate sauce. The treat has proved so popular that the ice cream parlour admitted that they had completely sold out on Wednesday, taking to Instagram to share the news: "WE SOLD OUT OF ICE CREAM! Holy moly you guys!! Thanks for all the love & support! We were so overwhelmed by all you amazing people today that we ran out of ice cream!"

The new food craze comes a week after stars including Katy Perry went mad for the Starbucks Unicorn Frappuccino, which was only available for three days in the United States, Mexico and Canada. The drink was not available in the UK, but the huge success of the magical beverage may convince bosses at the coffee chain to bring launch the limited edition drink worldwide. A number of eager fans took to Twitter to share their disappointment that it wasn't more widely available, with one writing: "Really hope the #unicornfrappuccino comes to the UK because it looks like all of my dreams come true in a coffee cup."
