Fans of the Marks & Spencer food hall will be excited to learn that the retailer is finally set to trial online delivery, meaning you will soon be able to get Percy Pigs and your favourite M&S treats delivered direct to your door. The British retailer is planning to trial the service this autumn, and if successful it will hopefully be rolled out across the UK.
STORY: The UK's top fast food chain has been revealed - is it who you expect?
The Guardian reports that until now it would not have been profitable for Marks & Spencer to launch the delivery service as customers typically don't spend enough on groceries on each visit. However with other retailers including Amazon joining the online food delivery market, it appears to make sense for M&S to join in what is the fastest growing section of the UK's grocery market.

"We continue to review food online carefully," said Steve Rowe, chief executive of M&S. "It has not cost us anything over the last five years by not being online with food. Our customers haven't moved yet, but they will and we need to ensure that we are ready with the right response. There are unanswered questions over what this means for M&S and we have a team looking at this now with a view to undertaking a soft trial in the autumn."
He added: "The economics of food online are not straightforward and it is not something that we are going to rush into until we have substantial customer insight and a better understanding of what is right for M&S and right for our customers."

Marks & Spencer Food has seen profits rise in recent years despite sales falling across clothing and other categories. Although the business already sells a limited edition of food and drink on its website, this would mark the first time that customers have the opportunity to shop the full food range on the web. Exciting!
