The ice cream features an almond milk base, but still has the indulgent chocolatey chunks and swirls that Ben & Jerry's is known and loved for. There will initially be three flavours available in the UK – Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Chunky Monkey, plus the new Peanut Butter & Cookies non-dairy ice cream. The new flavour is made with a vanilla non-dairy ice cream base and has crunchy peanut butter swirls and chocolatey sandwich cookies throughout.

"Our fans dared us to go dairy-less… and we did!" Andrea Ball, Ben & Jerry's Flavour Guru, said. "Creating non-dairy ice cream that meets the funky and chunky expectations of Ben & Jerry's fans was quite a challenge. But we're delighted to confirm the long wait is nearly over! Spoons at the ready to dig in."

There is a growing number of people following a vegan or dairy-free diet in the UK; research by The Vegan Society found that there were over 542,000 vegans in Great Britain in 2016 - three-and-a-half times more than in 2006.

Celebrities who follow a vegan diet include Pamela Anderson, Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus, who recently got a tattoo of the vegan food logo to represent her life-long commitment to veganism.
