The top 50 bars in the world have been named – and 8 are in London

London is the place to go for world-class cocktails, according to the World's 50 Best Bars 2017. The winners of the shortlist were announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday evening, with the American Bar at The Savoy hotel taking the highly sought-after title of the World's Best Bar.

The cocktail bar, which has been serving since 1893, was praised for its combination of tradition and innovation, with a menu that includes everything from classic 1920s-inspired cocktails to blends influenced by seasonal British ingredients. And it was joined by seven other London bars in the top 50, with Dandelyan on the South Bank ranking at number two, The Connaught at number four, and Bar Termini in Soho coming in ninth.

Other London bars to make the list were Happiness Forgets (positioned twelfth), Oriole (17), The Gibson (21) and Nightjar (43). The list is decided by a panel of anonymous drinks specialists from six continents, with bars included from all of them. Read on to see which other bars made the list.
