The Christmas party season is fast approaching, and we've found just the thing to get into the festive spirit. Lidl has launched two new versions of its award-winning gin in time for Christmas – and they cost a purse-friendly £11.99. The Hortus gin liqueurs are available in two different flavours – Rhubarb and Ginger or Scottish Raspberry – with each one hand crafted and traditionally distilled in copper stills. And with their premium-style bottles and labels, you won't be ashamed to have these new bottles on display.
STORY: The award-winning tipples available at your local supermarket
Lidl has launched two new gin liqueurs
The new editions will join the Lidl's own-brand artisan gin range, which includes the Hortus Original London Dry Gin and seasonal Hortus Oriental Spiced Gin and Hortus Sloe Gin, which all cost £15.99. And the retailer is encouraging customers to enjoy them in a different way to the traditional gin and tonic by serving as part of a spritz with champagne, or even mixing the rhubarb and ginger gin liqueur with ginger beer.

Paul Gibson, Buying Director for Lidl UK explained, "With the introduction of our innovative gin liqueurs, Lidl is enabling customers to explore a whole new area of gin they may not have experienced before – one that goes beyond the standard gin and tonic. These unbeatable prices for high-quality spirits is testament to Lidl continuing to deliver excellent value to our customers."
The spirits are available for just £11.99
Supermarkets have become the place to go for low cost, yet increasingly high quality drinks, with many of the own-brand tipples beating more established brands in taste tests. In July, one of Aldi's gins won a gold medal at the 2017 International Wine and Spirits Competition, while Lidl's Vodka Putinoff Platinum 5 quintuple distilled 40% also won a gold award at the same competition.
It's not just the spirits that are rated highly, but wines too. Lidl's £7.99 bottle of Crémant de Bourgogne Blanc NV won a "Silver Outstanding" award at the International Wine and Spirits Competition alongside the significantly pricier Veuve Clicquot 2008 vintage Champagne. Meanwhile for less than £10 you can sample an award-winning white wine. Morrisons The Best Rioja Reserva Blanco 2011 won an award at the International Wine Awards – and it's only £8.99 a bottle!
