To celebrate the release of Despicable Me 3, the good folks at Universal Pictures have introduced a baking class that not only shows aspiring bakers how to make one magical cake, it is also based around the minions' favourite snack – bananas! The exclusive minion baking classes are available in London for a limited time, and we at HELLO! went along to one of the classes to try it out – with a little help from Selasi Gbormittah from The Great British Bake Off!

We joined Selasi for a baking class

In the classes, which will be open to the public on 11 and 12 November, we were given a step-by-step guide to making a 'Despicably bananas' cake, which consists of chocolate and banana sponge with caramel filling and buttercream icing. With a little help from Selasi, we got right down to the challenge, and picked up some great tips along the way. For instance, when we were stuck on melting our caramel, which had become oddly lumpy, he advised us to simply use a sieve to keep our nice caramel, which worked a treat!

Selasi helped to fix our cake!

The highlight of the class was definitely the decorating. We might not have been pros, but making a cartoon unicorn (a replica of Agnes' beloved cuddly toy) while using food colouring was simply hilarious. We then decorated the cake with rainbow buttercream before treating everyone in the office with a taste of our creation! Speaking about making the recipe with help from your little ones, Selasi said: "Just have fun with it. As you can see, everyone has their own creative, finished thing around it. Be creative with the kids, it's such a fun and easy recipe. Pick your own colours, do as you wish and just have fun with it!"
