On the first day of September, there was a collective ‘clinking’ across the UK as everyone popped their bottles of Pimm’s and Aperol to the back of their drinks cupboard, and brought forward their Baileys, mulled wine, and sloe gin. But if you thought the most exciting tipple of the festive season was a spiked hot chocolate, then think again. Marks & Spencer do no wrong when it comes to delicious food and drink, and their Jaffa Cake cocktail looks utterly incredible.

We're definitely putting this on our Christmas wish list

Ah, the Jaffa Cake! Fans of the cake/biscuit/whatever-it-is-it’s-delicious will love this festive cocktail to serve instead of your usual Baileys aperitif - and it sounds great for parties too. The drink is rum based, and infused with the classic flavours of chocolate and orange for a truly decadent way to start/finish/wash down throughout your meal, or makes the perfect gift for your sweet toothed friend. It will definitely win you a few more brownie points than the usual Terry’s chocolate orange (although you could wrap them up in a pair).

According to M&S, the cocktail is ready to drink straight from the bottle, and you can add it to a cocktail shaker to shake and pour over ice. Which will definitely make you look like you’re a pro barman to impress your guests - in fact, why not serve it with some orange peel and some shaved chocolate curls? Or get really creative with a Jaffa Cake umbrella using a cocktail stick? Perhaps that’s not the most chic for dinner parties, though.

The drink costs £10 for a 350ml bottle, and will be available from the end of September. So make a note to stock up when nip in ahead of your Halloween shop. Unless you’re worried that you might become a little too fond of the stuff and will need a few more bottles for the Christmas period...
