The One Show host Alex Jones was so hungry as she was preparing dinner on Wednesday night that she resorted to a very unusual snack – cornichons!
The Welsh TV star, who is taking part in Veganuary, took to her Instagram Stories to share a look at her diet, explaining she was preparing a delicious vegan dish for dinner.

Standing in her kitchen, Alex could be seen wearing a cosy pink jumper as she told her followers: "Lots of you have been asking what we're having for supper and tonight it's crispy Szechuan tofu. Not sure about tofu myself, I'm not a massive fan but the veggie rice looks nice."

Holding up an almost-empty jar to the camera, Alex continued: "I'm starving though, and all I can find to snack on is cocktail cornichons. It's a very sad state of affairs, three left."
Cornichons are made with mini gherkin cucumbers and are often eaten with cheese or pâté, or used to decorate a plate. Since gherkins are already an acquired taste, it's likely that Alex's fans will be divided by her choice of snack, especially eaten by themselves!
The TV star had almost finished her jar of cornichons!
After "snacking like a maniac" on cornichons, the doting mum-of-two later showed off her dinner and suggested it was worth the wait.

"Forgot to take a picture and tucked in...it doesn't look like much BUT it's really delicious, especially with a bit of sriracha on the side," she wrote.

The TV star often shares glimpses of her dietary habits as she cooks up meals at home with husband Charlie Thomson and their two sons, Teddy, four, and one-year-old Kit. And the mini gherkins are not the only unusual food in Alex's kitchen cupboards; last year she encouraged fans to try a 'weird' combination of sweets and chocolate from New Zealand confectionery brand Pascall.
In a video, Alex described the pineapple lumps as "kind of chocolate with squishy pineapple in them? Sounds weird, and it is. But they are so delicious."
Although she tends to eat healthily the majority of the time, Alex previously revealed she also enjoys easy meals such as cheese toasties, especially after becoming a mum.
"Losing weight quickly wasn’t important to me," she told Prima after giving birth to Teddy in 2017. "It’s impossible post-baby anyway – you don’t have the time of the inclination. You’re up all night and you’ve got a permanent hangover without any of the fun. You want to eat carbs and bread and sandwiches and toast because you’re shattered."
