Princess Kate is known for being a keen chef with a passion for cooking healthy meals for husband Prince William and her young children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

With the sad news that the Princess of Wales has been diagnosed with cancer, the royal will be focusing on staying fit and paying even more attention to the foods she consumes at home with her family.

Princess Kate's diet amid cancer treatment

Professor Ramia Mokbel, a consultant dermatologist with a special interest in skin cancer and screening, and the founder of the London Skin and Mole Clinic at HCA Healthcare, reveals that patients must maintain a well-balanced diet rich in proteins, vitamins, carbohydrates, and fats to rebuild and compensate for the damage caused by chemotherapy.

The royal mum is currently in the early stages of preventative chemotherapy, having started treatment in late February, HELLO! understands. Kensington Palace has not confirmed the type of cancer.

The Princess of Wales has been undergoing preventative chemotherapy for cancer

Professor Mokbel explains: "During chemotherapy, patients are advised to avoid most supplements, except for vitamin D3. Drinking ginger tea can help prevent nausea, a common side effect of treatment.

"After completing chemotherapy, focusing on a Mediterranean-style diet is beneficial. This includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, antioxidants, and healthy unsaturated fats like omega 3, while reducing consumption of animal fats, carbohydrates, and processed foods."

Luckily for the royal, her diet is already packed with fresh fruit and vegetables and healthy fats, according to her typical day on a plate.

Breakfast

The mum-of-three is known to be a big fan of smoothies for breakfast, like her sister-in-law Meghan Markle.

According to the MailOnline, the Princess blends a combination of kale, spirulina (a type of algae), matcha (green tea leaves), spinach, romaine, coriander leaves, and blueberries together for a healthy morning drink.

With that combination, it's no wonder the royal has radiant skin. Kate is also thought to enjoy a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast.

Lunch

The Princess is not a vegetarian, but reports have revealed she mainly likes to eat meat-free dishes for lunch.

During her and William's royal tour of India, Chef Raghu Deora, who was tasked with creating dishes for the royal couple during their stay at the Taj Mahal Palace, revealed that he served up a lunch of vegetable kebabs and lentil curry for the pair. "It is all vegetarian because I was told that was what they preferred," he explained.

We also know that the couple enjoy sushi after they visited Japan House London. Talking to Japanese chef Akira, William said: "Very impressive," while eating some salmon sashimi. "Thank you very much. My wife and I love sushi. We might have to come down here for lunch when no one else is in."

Other favourites of Kate's are said to be watermelon salads, tabbouleh, ceviche, and gazpacho, according to a 2014 Daily Mail article.

Dinner

The Princess eats similar evening meals to many of us: roasts, pasta, and curries. When she was seven months pregnant with Prince George, Princess Kate enjoyed a homemade vegetable dish cooked by a couple hailing from India named Chan and Hash Shingadia, who ran a shop near her hometown in Berkshire.

Prince William and Princess Kates have been open about their love of Indian food

Princess Kate has previously admitted she is a fan of spicy food – although she revealed ahead of her royal tour of India with Prince William that unlike her, her husband "struggles" with spices. During a visit to Prince Shah Karim Al Hussaini, Aga Khan IV, before their tour of Pakistan in 2019, Kate said she tones down the spice when cooking homemade curries for her kids, before adding: "Charlotte is pretty good with heat".

Roast chicken is another popular meal in the royal household – Prince Harry famously proposed to Meghan while they were cooking the meal and Kate and William love it as well. Royal correspondent Katie Nicholl told Vanity Fair in 2012: "In the evenings she indulges her hobby of cooking William’s favourite supper, roast chicken."

Pasta is a favourite in the Wales house too, and such a child-friendly dish. People reported that during a visit to Lavender Primary School: "She was telling us how much her children love cooking and how they cook for her. They made cheesy pasta the other day. One stirs the flour, one puts the milk and butter in. And they make salads and stuff."

Snacks

The Princess is known to favour healthy snacks such as raw fruit and vegetables such as goji berries. While visiting children at Great Ormond Street Hospital in 2018, she revealed to a four-year-old patient: "I used to eat lots and lots of olives when I was little as well."

She even told a child during a visit to LEYF (London Early Years Foundation) Stockwell Gardens Nursery and Pre-school in London in January 2020 that she loves papaya.

Like many of us, however, Princess Kate loves a treat and has been spotted enjoying popcorn in the past. During the royal tour of Canada and the USA in 2014, Prince William and Kate attended a basketball game in New York where the pair were spotted tucking into a bucket of popcorn together.

Dessert

After a delicious chicken dinner is dessert. The royal's pudding of choice is the British classic sticky toffee pudding, which she often enjoys at the Old Boot Inn in Stanford Dingley, Berkshire.

Chef Rody Warot told People: "Kate is always discreet and has always complimented the dishes with great kindness... For dessert, her favourite is sticky toffee pudding. It’s moist and spongy."

Kate is also a keen baker. During the 2019 edition of Mary Berry's A Berry Royal Christmas, Kate, 42, revealed she "stays up until midnight" to make her children's birthday cakes herself.

The cake-baking passion has been passed on to her children as her husband Prince William shared a photo on Instagram of an adorable Victoria's sponge cake made by George, Charlotte, and Louis for Kate on Mother's Day.
