She came, she modelled, she conquered. Though it was just a brief 24-hour stop, supermodel Gisele Bundchen triumphed at Sao Paolo Fashion Week in her native country after a one year absence from Brazilian catwalks.
The 21-year old model was in Sao Paolo on Tuesday to model the Summer 2002 designs for popular Brazilian swimwear brand Cia Maritima. Gisele took to the runway just three times during the half-hour show, but the model's star power was such that even her brief appearance was enough to cause a buzz.
Onlookers expecting to see Gisele in the type of skimpy thong bikini common to Brazilian beaches may have been disappointed by the leggy model's ensembles, which included a relatively modest tube dress as well as a Native American-inspired two-piece bikini worn with a sarong.
“I don’t really feel like showing all of my body to the whole world,” the Brazilian beauty told the press. She also discreetly declined to comment on two very private issues: her romance with Hollywood star Leonardo DiCaprio, and whether or not she plans to quit smoking.
Cia Maritima, which will be opening stores in the US this year, is said to have spent $150,000 to produce the show, with around half that amount going to the golden-maned supermodel for her short stint on the runway.
