Legendary French actress and grandmother Catherine Deneuve has been named the new face of L’Oreal as the venerable beauty firm launches a line of hair care products aimed at mature women. The 57-year-old film icon joins the likes of Claudia Schiffer and Laeticia Casta on Monday when her first advert airs during popular UK soap Emmerdale.
“Catherine Deneuve is an extremely beautiful woman. Her looks are legendary,” says a spokesman for the cosmetics firm. “She is highly charismatic and known throughout the world as the incarnation of French beauty and elegance.”
The Dancer In The Dark star, who featured prominently on Vanity Fair’s recent “Legends Of Hollywood” cover, has appeared in 94 films and is both an Oscar nominee and a César award winner. She is perhaps best known for her role in the 1967 classic Belle De Jour.
The international stunner will next be seen on UK screens in the upcoming series of the wildly popular Absolutely Fabulous and, quite fittingly, as the Queen of France in the autumn action film The Musketeer.
