Supermodel Elle Macpherson has launched her own line of lingerie in the UK after enoying major success with her signature garments Down Under. And to cut costs for the startup, she’ll appear in the adverts herself.
“I employ myself to do the job simply because I’m the cheapest person to do it,” says the 37-year-old beauty, also known as The Body.
Elle’s collection, Intimates, includes both sports underwear and a wide range of rich, lacy undies. “This range reflects Elle’s personality – she is a gregarious but real woman in tune with the moods, sensualities and practicalities of all that a woman wants to be,” says a spokesman for the company, Kay Cohen.
Many have praised Elle’s business sense in marketing herself as a brand. “I’ve built up an image over 20 years and capitalised on it,” says the $26 million woman. However, she downplays acumen. “I’m not a businesswoman… I don’t set up companies and merge companies. Fortunately though I’m with somebody who is extremely good at all that.” That somebody would be French financier Arpad “Arki” Busson with whom she has a four-year-old son Flynn.
But it isn’t all about business. Elle, famous for modelling lingerie, has developed a passion for the garments over the years. “You should see me – I have five drawers of the stuff,” she says. “Everything in my warddrobe is matched with underwear. If I’m wearing blue jeans, for example, I’ll always wear denim or pale blue underwear. It’s stupid, I know, but that’s just me.”
