Thirteen years at the top may be unlucky for some – but not supermodel Kate Moss. The 27-year-old from the London suburb of Croydon has just been chosen by British make-up brand Rimmel to front up their new, super-funky advertising campaign.
“I used Rimmel when I was a kid,” said Kate when asked why she was so pleased to be fronting the high-street make-up range in print and TV adverts. “I love the fact that it is a British brand. Heather Shimmer lipstick was my favourite.” You can take the girl out of London, but you can’t take the London out of the girl, something that Kate acknowledges. “It is a young city with such diversity of culture – all the music, clubs and galleries. There’s such a freedom of choice – people can make up their own fashion, inspired by our amazing designers.”
The TV spot was shot at The Cross nightclub in London, and styled by Alexander McQueen’s right-hand woman, Katy England. Wearing a mixture of vintage and modern clothing, Kate walks in to the club, where she catches the eye of a graffiti artist, played by former Hollyoaks heart-throb Paul Dannan. So impressed is he by her that he tags her cheek – with Rimmel lipstick!
Kate’s cosmetic look was created by Sharon Dowsett, a Vogue regular. “She is a one-off and completely adorable,” says the make-up artist when asked about the model’s appeal. “Sometimes when she smiles she just takes your breath away. At other times she’s a cheeky girl-next-door. I don’t know what it is about her face – the wide apart eyes, that perfect moth, those cheekbones – but people can’t stop looking at her and can’t get enough of her.”
But it’s not just her looks that have Sharon waxing lyrical about her latest canvas. “Kate’s personality makes her unique. She treats everyone evenly and genuinely shows an interest. She really cares and doesn’t act like a supermodel, although she’s the most super model of them all.”
