There are not many relatives of the American president who would choose to pose for Pirelli, famous for its risqué shots of the world’s most beautiful women. But Lauren Bush, George W’s teenage niece, has been chosen as one of the tyre company’s calendar girls – although this year’s offering is different, as for the first time in its history, the models are keeping their clothes on.
Seventeen-year-old Lauren, who appears on the cover dressed in glamorous black, said that her family had been supportive. “I spoke to my grandparents and they were very pleased. They were even more pleased when I told them it was fully clothed.”
Fashion photographer Peter Lindbergh, famed for his photos of supermodels, had described the calendar in its previous, naked incarnation, as “boring.” Pirelli gave him carte blanche to redesign their product, so Lindbergh roped in Giorgio Armani, whose ad campaigns he regularly shoots, to clothe the 13 beauties. “I wanted to make this one more about the women’s personalities,” he added. “It’s not about body parts.”
The calendar, which was shot over six days at the Paramount studios in Hollywood, also features Mena Suvari, who captivated Kevin Spacey’s character to distraction in American Beauty, Julia Stiles and a whole host of up-and-coming US actresses.
