Rap mogul and recording artist Sean “P Diddy” Combs presented the new look for his Sean John hip-hop menswear collection on Saturday in just one of the highlights of New York Fashion Week over the weekend. Supermodel Gisele also took to the catwalk, marking the Brazilian beauty's one and only Big Apple appearance this season.
Held at the regal event space Cipriani’s, Puffy's latest collection evoked a time when men seemed to dress with a greater élan and passion. As Frank Sinatra crooned on the soundtrack, fashionistas were treated to an impeccably tailored line of martini ready three-piece suits, cashmere car coats and roomy trousers.
All in all, the show was an aesthetic homage to cool flamboyance. "That's the vibe we were going for," said Sean backstage, looking dapper himself in a pinstriped jacket with white pocket square, jeans and black wingtips. "It's time for men to play dress-up."
Lining the catwalk in front row seats were US Vogue editor Anna Wintour and her children, American Pie actress Tara Reid, and Red Hot Chilli Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis.
On Sunday British designer Luella Bartley presented her second ever show in New York, with her ultra-short dresses and skirts modelled by some of the biggest names in the industry, including Gisele Bundchen and Carmen Kass.
Supermodel Gisele, who made a one-off appearance on the runway for the designer, said: “I haven’t seen the whole collection, but what I have seen is pretty basic but great.
“The jeans are fantastic, they are so sexy, and I want them all. I love Luella. She is the most adorable woman.”
New York Fashion Week ends on Friday, February 15.
